Though only twenty minutes from Rotorua’s busy city life, Lake Tarawera feels worlds apart. As the birth place of tourism in New Zealand, Tarawera is a region of New Zealand steeped with its own unique history.
Guests enter the property via large wooden gates. The spacious wood-fired hot tub can be heated up in anticipation of the guests arrival. A relaxing dip in the hot tub is always a highlight, usually as the sun sets behind the hills and the stars began to twinkle in the night’s sky overhead.
From the deck is a tantilising view of the glistening lake and Mount Tarawera, mere moments from the properties doorstep. Guest are welcome to take to the lake in the double-kayak provided and/or use the fishing rod to catch a fat trout.
Guests love the peace and tranquility and can enjoy a meal on the patio and watch the grazing fallow deer on the other side of the fence.
Highlights include exploring the Rotorua Redwood Forest and going for a stroll around Lake Tikitapu or along Tarawera’s lake front with it’s abundance of birdlife and pretty wooden jetties. A swim in the lake in the summer months is the perfect way to cool off, the lake reaches 22 degrees during the warmer months.
As evening turns to night guests can cap off the perfect day by roasting marshmallows over the firepit outside before turning in for the night to re-energise themselves ready for another perfect day at Lake Tarawera.

Cute getaway in a beautiful location. We were able to take our dog and it was the perfect set up. Easy check in and Hosts were very friendly & helpful. Would stay again.

This place is an absolute slice of heaven! Everything you need, such an idyllic spot. Ideal for a small family and so close to the lake. We enjoyed every minute of it.
Siobhan.
We have had a blissful few days at the Woolshed, enjoying quality family time. Despite the rain, we made the most of our stay, enjoying the local sights and activities as well as the fabulous hot tub and exceptionally comfy beds! Let me assure you, the photos do not do this beautiful place justice - even in the rain and wind! Angie and Dave have curated a warm and welcoming airbnb with lots of eclectic and fun things to enjoy. A must visit if you are heading to Lake Tarawera.

About your host, Angie
My husband and I are lucky enough to live at beautiful Lake Tarawera. We own a life style block and manage several holiday homes at the lake. We love sharing this exquisite part of the country with visitors from all over New Zealand and beyond.
