Staying at The Straw Cottage gives you the opportunity to escape the madness of daily life and to sit back and relax in the beautiful surroundings or in front of the log fire with a good book.
We are a 5 minute ride from the Great Taste CycleTrail. We are close to the small townships of both Wakefield and Brightwater but still only a short drive to the busy hubs of Richmond and Nelson. The Able Tasman National Park is a 40 minute scenic drive from the front door!
If you wish to host your wedding or wedding preparation at the cottage, we are more than happy to assist you with your plans. Additional charges may apply.

The Cottage has a full working kitchen, with oven, stovetop, microwave, toaster, jug and sandwich press. There are ample cook pots, cutlery, plates, cups, wine glasses, etc. In fact, the Cottage is a real home-from-home and all creature comforts are provided. The Cottage has a large barbecue/grill outside with outdoor seating for 6. Breakfast provisions, local milk, locally made bread, and croissants, home baking and preserves are included in the rate for the first night of stay.

Beautiful Straw Bale constructed cottage set in idyllic surroundings. A perfect romantic hideaway for two or a holiday spot for the whole family. The cottage is the ultimate in luxury, with quality linens, towels, and toiletries. The location is extremely quiet and so peaceful you could hear a pin drop! The cottage is set back from the road down a long private driveway, there is little traffic noise and no light pollution making the 'milky way' a spectacular scene on summer and winter evenings.

Our cottage is located off Mt Heslington Road, Brightwater, Nelson. It is exquisitely quiet and peaceful and a fabulous place to unwind. It feels like you are in the middle of nowhere but is only a short drive to Richmond. The surrounding hills ensure we have no road noise or light pollution but also provide us with stunning views. We have easy access to the Great Taste Bike Trail minutes from the property as well as being within easy reach of wineries, beaches, and all that the Tasman region is famous for.
Outgoing and friendly. I like to bake and make quilts (and do a lot of exercise!). I have two children and we live near Brightwater, Nelson. We have a 16 acre farm with some cattle and a beautiful B&B Cottage.
My favourite travel destination is New Zealand and love to share hints and tips of where to go, what to see in and around Nelson and further afield.
