We live on a working farm surrounded by native forest with the beautiful Wakamarina river running through it. The camp was originally established somewhat 50 years ago while the area was once New Zealand's most lucrative goldfields with 3,000 inhabitants in 1864, mostly in tents hence the tiny town name of Canvastown at the start of the road.
We can arrange for professional river kayak trips on the Wakamarina and Pelorus rivers. We cart mountain bikes and kayaks to your preferred spots or arrange a fishing trip on the Sounds.
Various rustic cabins are set in a large grassed area, some have complete kitchens or part kitchen with the use of a large communal kitchen, recreation room and shower block.
Fire pits may be used (fire restrictions maybe in place).

About your host, Pete
My background has been in landscape for many, many years so I really look forward to looking after this great place. Over the last 60 years some very talented plants' people have added their touches so there is a great range of native and exotic trees on the property and the surrounding valley.
I spent a lot of time wandering around South Island rivers as a kid so I guess its no surprise that I ended up here.
My partner is a chef so we get spoiled and some of our guests do too. With so many mussel farms nearby you can't help but get to try them in everyone's favorite recipe.
Being super quiet here in winter means devouring lots of books and enjoy outdoor fires and that beats working!
Still look forward to finding an old sound's launch and tinkering on her and putting around the sounds.
